This time we have joined together with peaceful warriors from the Japanese martial arts community to bring to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts "Warrior Spirit." The production will include teams from the Karate, Kendo, & Aikido traditions. You can expect plenty of arousing taiko drumming and theatrical antics. Fushu Daiko has been thrilling audiences with their powerful and exciting taiko drum performances since 1990. The combination of pounding taiko, striking martial artists, and Japanese theatrics will be sure to awaken the peaceful warrior within. Experience a heart pounding performance while raising your understanding and appreciation for Japanese culture, Taiko drumming, and martial arts.

Annual Festivals: Hatsume Fair 2007: Date: February 24 - 25, 2007 Time: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Celebrating the first bud of spring, The Morikami’s largest annual event, Hatsume, transforms the normally tranquil Morikami Park into a unique Japanese spring festival. Presented by The Sun-Sentinel, Hatsume Fair features four stages with continuous entertainment including taiko drummers, Japanese tea ceremony, flower arranging, martial art, bonsai and origami demonstrations, and a koi show.
Also included are avenues of artisan booths, plant sales, a Bonsai exploration area, and Asian and American food vendors.Vendor Space at Hatsume Vendor space is sold out for Hatsume Fair 2007. Please note that food vendors should not apply for participation in Hatsume as Japanese and American cuisine is provided through an exclusive arrangement with San Francisco Puffs & Stuffs of Ft. Lauderdale.
Bonsai Bonanza Do you have a sick tree that could use some love and reviving? Bring it to Hatsume and make sure you visit our Bonsai 911 area where experts will be available from 10am - 4pm to answer questions, give advice and work on your tree. Please note that there are no appointments and our experts will help people on a first come first served basis. There will also be demonstrations held in the Bonsai 911 area on both days at 1pm & 3pm. For the Koi Enthusiast The Tropical Koi & Water Garden Club of South Florida will be holding its 6th Annual Show as a part of Hatsume Fair! Featuring several vendors offering great deals on koi, goldfish, pond fish, feeds & pond related items the show will high light many of the best koi in the United States. *Children’s DayPatterned after Japan’s national holiday, Kodomo-no-hi, The Morikami Children’s Day Celebration includes hands-on activities such as making a giant carp streamer; gyotaku (fish painting); Japanese toy making; hina-shikishi (doll collage); making newspaper kabuto (warriors’ helmets); and origami (paper folding). In addition, many other area cultural groups showcase their programs for children. Indoor and outdoor stages feature Japanese and American performances designed to delight all ages.
*Bon Festival Inspired by Obon, Japan’s traditional three-day holiday honoring ancestors and thanking them for the quality of life enjoyed by the living, The Morikami celebrates Bon Festival in one fun-packed evening. Highlights include rousing taiko drum performances, traditional Japanese folk dancing with audience participation, ghost stories, and a street fair with games and shop stalls. The highlight of the evening begins at sunset when Morikami Pond is transformed into a tranquil sea of lighted lanterns which, in accordance with Japanese custom, guide the departure of ancestors’ souls who have come for a brief visit among the living. A special fireworks display caps the enchanting evening.
Price: Adult $10; Children $5; Members and Children under 3 - FREE.

Outside vendors will also be providing Asian and American food on the festival grounds. No ATM on-site (but is nearby at a local corner and Publix not far from the park)
When planning your trip to Hatsume Fair, please note that there are no ATM's in the park.
Wheelchair Accessibility: There are a numbered amount of wheelchairs on-site and will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis.
