Isaac Bonewits : Recommended Reading
"The Pagan Man: Priests, Warriors, Hunters and Drummers" by Isaac Bonewitz 2005 Citadel Press ISBN 0-8065-2697- 1 $12.95 list
I just finished reading this book, and will probably be re-reading it again and again. Written by the founder of the organization to which I belong (Ar nDraiocht Fein, A Druid Fellowship, ADF), it is a tempered, reasoned presentation of the role of men in the Pagan community, and a must-have addition to any library.
Bonewitz is known not only for his frank honesty, historical accuracy, and attention to factual detail, but also for his barbed - and sometimes politically incorrect - sense of humor. All these traits come to the fore in his exploration of the Pagan man (note that in the "acknowledgements" in the beginning of the book that particular word has been crossed out, and over it is scrawled "Who to Blame"!)
Brother Isaac explores Pagan men as priests and wizards, artists and musicians, warriors and hunters, father, gays; and probes their often problematic relationships with the incarnate goddesses who share their beliefs. He includes many interviews with those in the modern Pagan community, and has written many rituals which will be of interest to men (my favorite is the Spell to Get Your Power Tools Returned, a petition to Hermes, "Greek deity of thieves, liars, businessmen, and lawyers").
Humor aside, READ THIS BOOK! Man, Woman, Gay, Straight, I don't care WHO you are, you - and WE - need this book.
(By the way, Bella is in the midst of reading this, and she loves it! Every couple of minutes she exclaims "Oh, NOW I understand!" )

I also admire Bonewits! I read him on WitchVox that we as Pagans should as lawyers and doctors (of the muggle world) be paid fair wages for our work, ministries, and healing. I like to quote him when I discuss this. When the mundane world think that we should give away our abilities when we too have bills to be paid.

Wish List (opportunity knocks) February 26th, 2007 by ibonewits
Last weekend at Pantheacon (which has got to be the best Pagan festival, as well" as the largest one, west of the Rockies), someone quoted to me the old saying that, “If you don’t ask for what you need, how are you going to get it?” So I’ve decided to post our current wish list, just in case any of our regular readers might be inclined to help manifest an item or two.
4) An intern or two who can help with filing, typing, sorting through papers, and other office tasks. We live in Rockland County, about 25 miles north of New York City. Since we have no room for guests, this would need to be someone local who could show up once a week or so.
There is a Fight Creedism T-shirt available here and you can link to him with a banner.
