Man Arrested For Beheading Duck At Minn. Hotel

(CBS) ST. PAUL, Minn. A 26-year-old Denver businessman was in custody Sunday for allegedly ripping the head off a live, tame duck that resided in a hotel lobby's ornamental pond.
According to a police report, Scott D. Clark, a guest at the Embassy Suites Hotel in St. Paul, cornered the duck early Saturday morning, grabbed the bird and "ripped its head from its body" while a hotel security guard and others watched.
Clark then turned to onlookers and said: "I'm hungry. I'm gonna eat it," said St. Paul police Sgt. John Wuorinen, citing the police report.
"He was allegedly drunk," Wuorinen said. [It is not the alcohol but the man who did this ]
Clark was detained by hotel security guards until police came to arrest him.
He remained in jail Sunday on suspicion of felony animal cruelty and was scheduled to appear in court Monday to be charged.
A phone message left for Clark at the jail was not immediately returned Sunday.
He could face up to two years in jail and a $5,000 fine, said Tim Shields, general counsel with the Minnesota Federated Humane Societies. Shields said the incident was "unconscionable," and having live ducks in a hotel lobby puts them at risk of being stepped on or run over by suitcases.

"I think Embassy Suites needs to take another look at this and review how they keep ducks safe, or use fish like most hotels would use," Shields said. "This sort of behavior by someone is very troubling. Someone who would attack a duck in a public place like that, an animal in a public place like that, supposedly announce they're going to eat it is a pretty serious matter. And in fact, in Minnesota it would be a felony."
Calls to the Embassy Suites were referred to either the assistant general manager or the general manager, and neither of them were available Sunday. Police say the hotel keeps about eight domesticated ducks inside the lobby and atrium, according to a Minneapolis Star-Tribune report. [

Rich and I were speaking of how people are not given the basic morals and compassion for other living things. We are afraid to dicipline our children as saying no has become as wrong as you can do whatever you want. Never mind the society laws but what about the laws of having to live with these horrible acts of torture and pain well after they have inflicted them on others? This is worse than the ME Generation. Who went after material possessions. Now we are not caring at all of how we hurt others. This hurts me for the poor duck that was not even allowed to live free. Used as entertainment by the hotel. Thus was put into harms way.
People, animals, Mother Earth is suffering for our youth not being conciable connected to others. When we are hurt do we not bleed all the same? Murder seems to be an every day occurance that shows there is something missing in this society of ours. Even people I know who have thoughts know not to act on them. Where is the restraint? The respect for all living things? LI
