Thursday evenings, 7:30 p.m. Donation: $15.00 per class
This is a progressive course. In the event you have an interest, you will need to start at the beginning and stay with it to the end: Once we start, the class will be closed. Each week you will be given insights into a certain aspect of the wheel and taught how to enter into your own, private ceremony, focusing on what was learned that week. You will be encouraged to dedicate a half hour each day to that aspect in private ceremony/prayer/meditation. This way, you will begin to develop experience and understanding with that aspect, so that by course end you will have a good foundational knowledge of how to conduct a full ceremony that will help you deal with life's challenges and opportunities.
Course length is estimated to be from six to eight (6-8) weeks. Come with your questions, any knowledge you may already have, and any experience you may have, and be ready to share that with your sisters and brothers in the class.
A Long Dance is scheduled near Deland, FL, for the end of April and you will be encouraged to make a commitment to that ceremony. You will also be invited to participate in inipi ceremony (purification lodge) during the course as well as at the Long Dance. There will be more information on the dance in the next week or two.
-- Knowing LI I googled. There is a lot offered here.
-- Found on About: The Path of the Feather: A shamanic journey, medicine wheels and spirit animals. http://www.artashealing.org/ahfwmw.htmThe word "medicine" means "sacred wisdom that represents the totality of the universe, all of the patterns of creation.” The circle becomes a Medicine Wheel when it is used for a specific purpose or focus. As human beings, we have a specific purpose.
The wheel teaches us to be respectful of all life and emphasizes that each step we take on our beloved Earth Mother, must always be a prayer.
The wheel teaches us that all aspects of the wheel intricately interact with all other aspects of the wheel. We are not alone but are part of the whole.
The wheel teaches us to break the illusion of separateness and to see ourselves as necessary parts of the whole. No one cell is any less important than the next, for it takes all cells to create the whole. You cannot have a forest without the trees. This does not take away from the uniqueness of the individual; rather, it allows the individual access to the strength and resiliency found only in the whole.
Life is a cycle, a cycle is a circle, and in a circle, all things return to where they began.
-- Prayer to Great Spirit -- Shaman in many traditions pray to Great Spirit before they do any work. They say it is crucial to give thanks, call in Great Spirit before starting out. We have used this prayer with groups to start our shaman work.
"As we start on The Path of the Feather let us pray to those who help us on the way. Let us pray for them to come to us, and be with us in this work we are about to do. God, Buddha, Great Spirit, Our Teachers, She who gardens us from above, come to us and help us with this work. We thank you for the earth, for our families, and for us as the shaman that we all are. We thank you for our spirits and our ability to pray, to make to see visions and to speak to power animals and ancient ones.. We thank you for our eyes, our ears, our hands, our bodies, and our lives. Help us tell the truth and help us understand these words. Help us heal ourselves, others we love, and the earth. Help us make our sacred medicine wheels to heal ourselves, others, and the earth . " Close your eyes a moment and be silent. Pause and center yourself. Thank the powers that you believe in, pray for what you need. Now you can start your work.
-- Circle Dance Definition - various definitions of cirlce dance - Long Dance. What is the LongDance? - smoke of sacred sage, in the native american tradition, which helps us to slow http://www.inthedance.com/LongDance.html
What is the LongDance? In simplest terms, the LongDance is a moving prayer, a moving meditation, an experience of drawing aside the veils that, in our minds and in our culture, would separate us from the Source of all light, love, and compassion. As has been said before, we are not human beings having a spiritual experience, but rather we are spiritual beings having a human experience. The LongDance reminds us of this and gives us a deep, rich, and often powerful experience of it.
The main difference between the LongDance gatherings and the Sacred Circle Dance gatherings is that of intent. When we come together for Sacred Circle Dance, we may experience a wide range of dances and moods, and our intent is to connect with each other, the earth, the changing of the seasons, with other cultures, and with our own deep heritage. In the LongDance it is possible to have all of that experience within a greater context of an intent to create and weave together a spiritual, reflective, and meditative experience. We utilize a number of tools that are helpful in manifesting this intention: we begin with a ritual of smudging each other with the smoke of sacred sage, in the native american tradition, which helps us to slow down, get grounded, and recall our sacred nature into our consciousness. We sit in quiet meditation for a short while, slowing the body and becoming aware of the breath. Then we join the Dance! We spiral around a center of flowers and candles, a focus for our energy and an inspiration for our spirits. We dance within a circle of candles, a reminder that the light of Spirit is always surrounding and infusing us. As the evening progresses, the lights are dimmed, until just the light of the candles combined with the Light sparking from our eyes, hearts, and hands fills the room. We gradually slow to stillness and the music fades. We breathe, smile, glow. We are at peace. We are home.
That being said, it is difficult to relate the nature of this experience using the symbols of words and sentences. If this calls to you, then please come join a LongDance gathering and experience it for yourself.--heartfire-July,2003
-- An Inipi ceremony, also known as a sweat lodge, is a Lakota purification ceremony. The Inipi ceremony is conducted in an Inipi lodge. An Inipi lodge has a frame which is usually made from willow branches, and is covered either with hides or blankets. The Inipi ceremony is an ancient practice of the Lakota people and has been passed down through the generations as sacred knowledge.
The actual ceremony involves the introduction of fire heated stones to the fire pit dug in the center of the lodge, followed by poured water which creates hot steam. The ceremony takes place in pitch black and may include song and drum. A Canumpa may also be passed around.
Inipi is not discussed with the general population. The general rule is to keep your mouth shut, eyes and ears open. From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inipi

-- How to prepare and what to expect. This is very nicely done. SWEAT LODGE THOUGHTS Inipi is performed in a circular, dome-like structure, usually made of wood and.. Inipi is simple but yet sublime and spiritual. What can you expect to happen? http://home.earthlink.net/~shiseiryu1/shiseiryu1/nativeamerican/sweat_lodge.htm
Hopefully you can join me as I have the books that I didn't understand. I am hoping this will be easier. LI
