Find resources to share what you want to give away and need to find, Freecycle.

I met a new friend who likes to share the resources she knows as I do. Thank You Very Much for such a complete explanation and so many links. I am sure another friend has mentioned using one of these sources. But if I don't see it writen, I quickly forget to look it up! This is being shared for more people to enjoy the wonders of peoples generosity!
As I have given good things rather than go through the classified adds. I have given away furniture sets, and wall units with burl and smoked glass. Without asking for a cent though I had paid a lot for them. I was done with them and only wanted someone else to be able to enjoy them also, as the bulk day with the garbage is not an option for me! And I felt if I gave away I would have less people to turn it down and coming into my home to get it.
Which did upset a few people who come into my home and say "My gosh, what a fortune WE could make with all this stuff!" What we? And it is my home to enjoy not theirs to profit from. As I certainly do not like being one of those homes who has the bare minimum, as my shelves reflect my interests and I enjoy pretty things.
Though the last year and a half I have had a serious change in how many things are surviving the family of climbers and pushers of my shelves with fur, tails and 4 feet called a cat family. When hear a crash of glass I hope that I did not love it or that it was not very expensive as now all I have to do is make certain their little paws don't get cut on the glass shards. As I like blown and crackle glass. Now I look at things and until I get things that I will get a product from Walter Drake that will keep the items on the shelves, I am not bringing anything new in. And I am looking for a new curio cabinet, but I need to give away more furniture to have room for it. That is the cycle of my home. Reconfiguring as I find my home changes it's purpose and need to be kid proofed. So I hope she doesn't mind, and I hope you find lots of stuff to share and enjoy!
I dropped her email here. Making sure there was no personal information included so it is safe to post. LI

FREECYCLE

Freecycle began in Arizona in 2003 and now has over 1 million members nationwide. It has been on the local news a number of times. It is totally free and run by volunteers.

Broward freesource [an offshoot of freecycle] has over 2200 members itself and has posted over 10,000 offers and takens so approximately 5000 items have been saved from the landfill. Some need repair – most do not.

Once in the yahoo groups area, there is a search window where you can search for other local area groups. I simply put in freecycle florida and also freesource florida.

Pay attention to any listings that refer to other or new local groups to get other links. Most are fairly open to new members but some are very picky. I simply told them that I am frequently in their area for business reasons. Which is actually true. Because I drive a lot when my car feels like working . LOL … and have clients all over the areas that I often go to their homes.

This is NOT an exchange. I do not have to want something from you for you to pick up something from me. I simply have to offer something to the group once to be eligible to receive any offer I see posted. And then be the one that the offerer chooses which may or may not be because I responded first.

The initial offer can be as small as a paperback book …

When I first signed up, I set it up so that the group[s] would automatically send me any offers that were posted. I quickly found that to be not such a good idea. Way too many emails into my inbox that I was not interested in. So I went back to the yahoo groups and reset it so that I only received the emails from the administration people. Then I set a “favorite” for each separate
group that I belong to and simply go check it once or twice a day or whenever I think of it. I might miss a couple of things, but I figure if they were meant for me, I would be there at the right time.

From time to time, individual groups have a free-for-all at a public place where members bring things they wish to part with and everyone simply walks around and takes what they want. They usually have a poll for a few days before these events to determine when and where.

Last week a thrift store that was closing posted an offer for everything that was left ...
we just went to the store and took what we wanted ... i got some great christmas stuff for a friend who is addicted to christmas and all holidays - she grew up in an orphanage so she feels holiday deprived ... she decorates for each holiday and sometimes actually gives tours of her home ...

It is also permissible to post a “wanted” for something that you would like that you either missed out on or that you have not seen posted. as long as you have posted an offer on that specific freecycle previously.

There is a requirement to post an “offer” before posting any wanteds. But it is a requirement to post an “offer” before answering anyone else’s offer anyway.

Some people pick things up at each other’s homes while others make arrangements to meet somewhere more public.
