Grasshopper Festival June 1-2, 2007 Grasshopper Festival Augusta, Kansas
The name and theme come from a time in Augusta's past when the town almost died after a plague of grasshoppers chewed every tree, shrub, crop and even the clothes on the line.

The following is a schedule of Events for the 2007 Grasshopper Festival. The 2007 Grasshopper Festival will take place June 1 through June 2, 2007.

Downtown Augusta, Kansas

What is the Grasshopper Festival?
In its third year, The Grasshopper Festival has become one of the fastest growing events in the south central region of Kansas. The Grasshopper Festival brings a "family friendly" atmosphere to Augusta and to all its visitors and participants!

The Grasshopper Festival is an annual event that returns us to a time and a location from our past where families came to the downtown core of the community to celebrate and have fun. There is no charge for the festival itself. Vendors will line the brick streets of our downtown and several games and booths will keep families having fun. Two years ago, the non-sanctioned barbeque filled our streets with a wonderful aroma as well as giving participants cash awards. This year's KCBS santioned event proved to be a gigantic addition to our festival, attracting cooks from all over the central United States.

The name and theme come from a time in Augusta's past when the town almost died after a plague of grasshoppers chewed every tree, shrub, crop and even the clothes on the line. A hearty group of men and women persevered after the devastation. They rebuilt and replanted; they kept their minds clear and focused on Augusta, rejecting defeat!

TO A GOOSE

If thou didst feed on western plains of yore;

Or waddle wide with flat and flabby feet

Over some Cambrian mountain's plashy moor;

Or find in famer's yard a safe retreat

From gypsy thieves, and foxes sly and fleet;

If thy grey quills, by lawyer guided, trace

Deeds big with ruin to some wretched race,

Or love-sick poet's sonnet, sad and sweet,

Wailing the rigour of his lady fair;

Or if, the drudge of housemaid's daily toil,

Cobwebs and dust thy pinions white besoil,

Departed Goose! I neither know nor care.

But this I know, that we pronounced thee fine,

Seasoned with sage and onions, and port wine.
