Discussions with friends...

A book I found was about research done on the behaviors of cats. Unfortunately it wasn't the nicest of books. But it did have one thing funny. They set out to find out if cats really would find their way home if they were taken out of their environment. So they kept taking a cat further away from where it knew it's surroundings. Finally they concluded it isn't true. How ridiculous! How many times would you make the trip home if you kept being rejected? I would get the message. And a friend said he wouldn't hurt his feet! And maybe he found a nice cozy, warm, comfortable, & loving home to replace this one?

There was a cat raised with a rat. They were the best of friends. And he was the only one the cat wouldn't eat. They took the rat away and when they tried to prove if the cat would remember it it got eaten. Was the test done fairly? But was the cat hungry/starved? Was the rat kept with other rats that it would not have his familiar odor? Because I know the trick of a foster cat, say, will accept a kitten that is not hers if they have the scent of her kittens, using their urine. Though I didn't find that necessary to do.

On Animal Planet there was a cat picked up by the county of LA and she was in good shape. I think she was an in/out cat. Luckily she was one of the first to be chipped in 2004 the story aired world wide! So the program began 7 years before that. Evidently a family in FL lost their kitten during the holidays. And they were shocked to get a call to come get their cat! They were flown from FL to CA to reunite and the world press was there.

Animal Planet/Discovery:
Jeff is a favorite of mine! Jeff's winning personality, combined with his camera-friendly good looks, led editors to choose him as one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" For more: http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/jeffcorwin/bio/bio_01.html

Looking for the story I found this link for how cats got their names.

This one is in my backyard: It is like a New Yorker will not do the tourist stuff unless they are one. So although I want to go here, I haven't been. But I visit the website and tell others about it! Over the years it is sad to here the loved cats get sick and die because they were bred to be coats. Or their environment causes stress!

Destiny Big Cat Sanctuary has already had a year like no other in its history. In May of 2005, Destiny lost its first resident, Taz, a Siberian lynx, to a heart attack due to poor genetics found during his necropsy. Since Taz was a rescue from a fur farm, there is no telling how inbred or even crossbred he may have been. At a fur farm, the cats only live until they are full grown so that their pelts can be harvested -- there’s no need to let them live any longer since they won’t be getting any bigger. Even worse, lynxes are killed for only their belly fur, the rest of the body and pelt are just thrown away. Taz’s sudden death was a crushing blow to the staff, with the only positive thing being that he passed away while in the arms of his caretakers, and did not go alone.August 25th brought Hurricane Katrina to Florida’s shores while en route to the Gulf Coast, where it caused all the flood damage to the area. While Katrina was only a category one hurricane when it passed over Florida, it certainly did plenty of damage at Destiny Big Cat Sanctuary.
Just when things were getting back to normal, Cosmopolitan, and Bengal tiger became ill in early September. After two weeks of testing and different medications, the decision was made to sedate Cosmo for a closer look. It took a huge team effort, but a surgical room was created out of the back porch of the main house, and a team of 3 vets, the Destiny staff, and a lieutenant from the local fire house that specializes in large animal rescues safely sedated, and transported Cosmo to the surgical room.
For all involved, it was the most flawless operation that any had ever been part of. Unfortunately, Cosmo was diagnosed with kidney failure, and was about to enter the very worst suffering that the disease has to offer. Cosmo was euthanized to prevent that horrible suffering. Cosmo passed while surrounded by 12 people who held hands and said prayers from their own beliefs. Catholics, Protestants, Hebrews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Lakota Indians were all well represented. With 24 hands resting on his body, Cosmo passed in way that everyone should hope that they would be able to do so as well.
Two deaths, one tropical storm, and one category one hurricane later, the staff at Destiny felt that a break was due. Between the missing cats and trees, the place just didn’t seem the same. That’s when the news arrived that Hurricane Wilma was on its way.

Help Insure the Future Of Destiny Big Cat Sanctuary
These cats are, at present, partnered up in small cages because most of the fences and other cages are down. They are used to being in a much larger area and they are not used to sharing their cages with one another. They are under enormous stress which is very risky as stress can contribute to serious illness in exotic animals. It can also cause them to get aggressive with one another. Please help restore their home and give them a chance to live out their lives.
If you can possibly help them, please consider it.

All donations are entirely tax deductible. Please send all checks and money orders to:
Destiny Big Cat Sanctuary 6232 Hancock RoadSouthwest Ranches, FL 33330
EVERY contribution will help enormously, no matter how small the donation. If each person sent a dollar or five or ten, it would truly impact the lives of these magnificent animals. Please help us get Baja back into his swimming pool. You can make
donations online, but at this time the sanctuary staff prefer you to send donations by mail as they can not go online due to the lack of electricity.

IMPORTANT LEGAL NOTICE: Dear Readers,It has come to my attention that illegal versions of my books are being sold on EBay. A “collector’s edition” of my books in e-book form are being illegally distributed amongst readers. Someone typed up all of my books in PDF format and sold them illegally. They informed the buyers that it was all right to resell them. Now, the books are being sold by multiple persons. Please be aware that this is a criminal act & that any person who is involved in this, seller or buyer, could be criminally charged. My lawyers, the publishing houses, and EBay are aware of this problem and are pursuing legal action. Please DO NOT purchase this “collector’s edition e-book”. I would hate for one of my innocent readers to be tangled up in this horrible situation. This is copyright fraud and is a serious crime. If you are trying to tell the difference between a legal version of my books and illegal versions, you can use my website as your guide for ordering online or order from your local bookstore. Also, my books are published separately, even in legal PDF format. They are not, and never will be published altogether. My books are published by several publishing houses and they would not publish them together. If you are looking for legal PDF format, please use established sites like Amazon.com to order your downloadable books. Thank you for supporting me by purchasing my stories. Without my loyal fans to purchase my stories, I would not be able to make a living writing books. Christine Feehan
