Career Suicide? CBS fires Don Imus from radio show ... Losing Imus will be a financial hit to CBS Radio, which also suffered when Howard Stern departed for satellite radio. The program earns about $15 million in annual revenue for CBS, which owns Imus’ home radio station WFAN-AM and manages Westwood One, the company that syndicates the show nationally. Part of one comment: My problem with the entire Imus matter is neither the incident nor the subsequent decision to remove him but the overall hypocrisy. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, allegedly men of God, spewing outrage at Imus’ remark when both have tread that inappropriate ground before neither being contrite. “Let he without sin cast the first stone” springs to mind. Then the endless glut of pundits who applaud his firing and run home and watch Jerry Springer, Maury Povich or Tyra Banks; as long as it’s masked in an acceptable format it’s okay? ... Greg S. Maine

I saw some of this show. Al Sharpton has aged well. Is much thinner and although Bill Maher introduced him as a "friend" he did not come off that way. He even yelled at Bill as he was interupted what he was trying to say. If you have rules of how to be on the show... like questions are asked are they allowed to be answered? (paraphrased), Sharpton admitted to in his younger years using the "n" word. It is rude not a crime. And if as I know is true, the culture calls themselves the "n" word, why is it good for you not for all people? Especially coming from NY it was like a phrase thrown around all the time. Where we might curse someone out for cutting us off on the road, my friends used it instead as an explative. They said they are of the same race so they can do it. Imus did not use the "n" word. This is getting like "God" we have to be careful what we use in the dictionary. Hey I grew up with "them" changing what they wanted to be called all the time. Not going to get into it but people are too sensitive, as others say, it is what context it is in if it is acceptable. And if "they" say something it is okay but if "we" say something it is racist and all wrong and want to be compensated for it! That to me is all wrong. As Bill Maher said it is touching on the 1st ammendment of free speech. And it should not be the media who makes these emotional decisons. Take it to the courts! Yeah like they need to be mucked up with more surpurphulus time wasted. When real criminals are getting away with murder and being thrown out onto our streets for not enough room to keep all of them. Care about what really matters! And I know I will not be popular in my musings on the balance of the way we see things. But what is good for the goose should be good for the gander. As the movies out there and the comedians are not what I want to see because they throw racial slurs all over and no one complains. I protest by avoiding them! That is all is needed. You don't like it go away, turn it off, turn a deaf ear as there are obviously people who do like them.
