A Gwinnett County mother’s push to get Harry Potter books banned from elementary school bookshelves has made it to the state board of education. Laura Mallory is the mother of three who's fighting against those books. Tuesday morning she pleaded her case to a hearing officer who will make a recommendation to the state board. Among her arguments is a central theme that the books promote witchcraft and evil, but people who know about real life witchcraft, or Wiccanism, say the witches in the Potter books have nothing to do with reality and a lot more to do with getting children to enjoy reading. At Inner Space and the Hoot Owl Attic bookstore in Sandy Springs you can find anything you want to know about the mystical world. “We have books on Wicca, Paganism, mystical Christianity,” the clerk said. And in back they put many of these words into action. They teach and they practice. People like Marcia Gaither. She used to practice Wiccanism, or witchcraft, now she's teaching a class on it. “Do what you will but harm none in the process -- I guess you could say the Wiccan equivalent of the golden rule,” said Gaither. She says the controversy about Harry Potter is absurd. “No one tried to take ‘The Wizard of Oz’ away, you didn't see them taking ‘Bewitched’ off the air when it was on; ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch.’ All of these things are fantasy and nothing in any of these are even remotely close to what Wiccans practice,” Gaither said. She says the real magic the books worked in her life is with her children and teaching them to love to read. “My daughter doesn't hate reading, but my son did -- and this is one thing that helped us get over the hump,” Gaither said. “And he doesn't follow the same path I follow. It didn't draw him into witchcraft or anything. ”In the classes, they teach about witchcraft and wizardry. They even teach spells, but the spells they talk about don't turn anyone into a frog. It's more like spells for a good job, a raise, or inner peace. They compare them to a type of prayer.

Laura Mallory is not a Harry Potter fan, and she isn't giving up the fight to have the popular character taken out of elementary school. She says the series may encourage reading, but it also encourages witchcraft and evil.
She made her argument before a state school board hearing examiner on Tuesday.
“Witchcraft is being mainstreamed to our kids today but people are not aware of it. They think these books are fantasies but Wicca is a real recognized religion,” Mallory said.
She finds the series so disturbing she says she’s never completely read one of the books by popular author J.K. Rowling. And she told the hearing officer she doesn't want her three children exposed to Harry Potter at the school library.
“They are my most precious thing in the whole wide world to me and I don’t want them indoctrinated into a religion whose practices are evil,” said Mallory.
Gwinnett County Schools attorney Victoria Sweeny says that under Mallory’s reasoning school bookshelves could become virtually empty.
“Obviously there are witches in ‘Macbeth,’ sprites in ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream,’ witches in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ ‘Sleeping Beauty’ - the list goes on and on,” she said.
Sweeny says she believes Harry Potter promotes reading and good values.
“The major themes are good versus evil, overcoming adversity, loyalty, friendship and courage,” she said.
The hearing was attended mostly by Harry Potter fans, including Scott Bremer, a student at Grady High School in Atlanta.
“I think its a really excellent series,” Bremer said. “I started reading them in second grade. It really did introduce me to reading in a positive way, and I think these books have only a positive influence.”
Like the Harry Potter series, this story doesn't yet have an ending. The hearing officer will make a recommendation to the state school board. The board is expected to make a decision in December. Source

If people start scrutinizing books we could repeat history. And remember the burning times ... of books? No more! Leave well enough alone including the make believe world that makes so many of us happy. There are more things to worry about and obsess over than what a woman writes or talks that is meant to give us pleasure and diversion. Unless you are one of those "Dungeons & Dragon" people who go out and commit real acts outside of the game? Who is your leader. Gosh guys. Let her say what she likes and I will continue to buy the books and movies that come from her work! Remember our 1st Amendment. See here. Modern Details. Freedom of Speech & Religion. And now it is we are fighting for Freedom to love and do with our bodies as we like as our hearts dictate. Not as some politician or moral code committee desires us to be. I think we see the results of that are not positive. It will fuel hostility toward other cultures and people. Of that I cannot agree! Be nice. Love all things real and imagined. For Hate is a terrible thing. A mind is a terrible thing to waste if it has to worry about restrictions of what is accepted or not.
Found this site. If schools are not teaching our children to read, and books outside of these institutions can do the job, this is a good thing. As I put that J.K. Rowling's books had increased the statistics for children who read. Site News With Views. by Joel Turtel.
On a personal note I was over 75% deaf till I was 30. I was not educated in our Public schools. When I did go into a 1st grade with Mrs. Qunz (sp?) For all the things I don't remember I remember her name even if not how to spell it. I didn't hear her and I was dragged out of the classroom by the ear and beaten on the knuckles with a ruler. Another time I went I was given the floor to sit on without books to use and they said I would not be there long enough to give me a chair or books. I am self educated. By sheer will I will learn something! And our children are not being served any better though I thought there were more resources and advocacy for them half a century later. Maybe these children need to do what I do! Go to the library. Go online and be curious for knowledge as they want to be! If they crave to be more than what they will be relogated to not having an education, they can take their own destiny into their own hands. Who says I have to struggle to make life I want by a below poverty salary? Read and all things are possible! Understanding what we read is important too!

For Harry Potter Fans

NEW YORK (Oct. 20) - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

Dumbledore, of the Harry Potter books and movies, is gay, according to author J.K. Rowling. Warner Bros. The wizard's lack of relationships with women and his mysterious, troubled past have long fueled speculation by Harry Potter fans.
After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.
She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."
"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.
She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."
Dumbledore's love, she observed, was his "great tragedy."
"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."
Potter readers on fan sites and elsewhere on the Internet have speculated on the sexuality of Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past. And explicit scenes with Dumbledore already have appeared in fan fiction.
Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.
Rowling, finishing a brief "Open Book Tour" of the United States, her first tour here since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."
Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason. End of Article.
I put this together and breaking my usual refrain from opinion. There is plenty added here!
"Rowling spent seventeen years writing the seven Harry Potter books."
Concept and creation " According to author J. K. Rowling, the idea for both the Harry Potter books and its eponymous protagonist came while waiting for a delayed train from Manchester to London in 1990. JK Rowling stated that in these hours, her idea for "this scrawny, black-haired, bespectacled boy who didn't know he was a wizard became more and more real to me ...The tragedy of her own mother's death on December 30, 1990 inspired her to write of Harry Potter as a boy longing for his dead parents, his anguish becoming "more deeper, more real" than in earlier drafts because she related to it herself" Source: Wikipedia

"Commercial success ~ The popularity of the Harry Potter series has translated into substantial financial success for Rowling, her publishers, and other Harry Potter related license holders."

The announcement described "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" as "the world's first immersive Harry Potter themed environment." According to the Warner Bros. press release, the section is "Expected to open in late 2009.
" The most notable trend attributed to Harry Potter has been an increase in literacy among the young. " This is a good thing.

Harry Potter is a heptalogy of fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The books chronicle the adventures of the eponymous adolescent wizard Harry Potter, together with his best friends ...
These books are written for children and when we think more is going to come of it we are not satisfied that we only see gazing into ones eyes, holding hands, silly smiles.
With all these characters found in this Guide I am sure there is more than sex and romance expected out of someone's imagination. I am not picking up a steamy romance novel. I am looking for as was said in the tent " Magic 1.
Let us not forget that this is Fiction. And from someone's imagination to share with us to entertain us. This is a struggle of people and creatures to survive in a World which is not always magickal in a kind sence. Cleaver beings outsmarting one another for who will be in control of their destiny? Remember as "Harry thinks its so cool and says "I love magic"" 1.
This is for fun and enjoyment at being entertained. I don't care what any of the characters sexual preferance is. What kind of love do children experience? Love of family and friends. 2. Warm affection and hopes one will like and aprove of the other? All I care about in the stories is: What kind of adventure are they experiencing? What kind of creature is going to be a friend or foe? Guys just sit back and enjoy getting away from our reality here for the Now.
For love interests there was: Harry Potter's crush on and a history with Cho Chang. Shows not to put off for tomorrow what you should do today. If he had asked her she would have gone to the Yule Ball with him. She went with Cedric Diggory "Cho initiates a kiss with Harry under some mistletoe after the last D.A. session before the Christmas holidays; much to Ron and Hermione's amusement, Harry describes the kiss as "wet.""
We have haunting Moaning Myrtle who had a crush on Harry. Which was always obvious, especially when she snuggled up to him in the bath with his egg.
Harry became sick of telling people that Hermione wasn't his girlfriend and, when questioned, he told Krum, "We're friends. She's not my girlfriend and she never has been.
Hermione Jean Granger who's date at the Yule Ball was Quidditch prodigy Viktor Krum, much to a jealous Ron's disdain. And would have gone with Ron had he asked. She commented to Harry that Viktor like to look at her and did not talk much. The strong silent type? "Said he was a genuinely nice person beneath the sullen exterior." This says why he is sensitive to being teased about Krum comment about Harry's best friend Ginevra Molly "Ginny" Weasley.
Expected more with the hint of romance between Rubeus
Hagrid (a fictional character) and Olympe Maxime did gaze into their eyes and touch hands as they walked together. They talked a lot! Catching up on time passed.
I certainly was disappointed there were not more with the inclusion of the Dragons being developed into characters. As the cameo of Norbert in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Species Dragon (Norwegian Ridgeback) Also the fiercely loyal creature, Buckbeak. As was FluffyThree-headed dog belonging to Rubeus Hagrid. The Quest for the Egg was amazing. I had to watch several times as the dragons moved so fast!
No one needed to wait for a book/movie to know where Lucius Malfoy's true aligance was with Tom Marvolo Riddle/Lord Voldemort. Who is here as a half-blood. And he is out to destroy all half-bloods. Reminds me of a real person in history who said to destroy all who were not blonde and blue eyed while he was the opposite. There is a spoiler here that reveals the last book. What happens to Snape and Dumbledore... in the Final book Further information: Deathly Hallows (objects)

Spoilers - Narcissa Malfoy, (who had been helpful by warning Harry...) born Narcissa Black. She later married Lucius Malfoy and together they have one son, Draco. Although never a Death Eater, Narcissa shares her husband's views on blood purity. ... By the final book, Voldemort has given Malfoy his freedom, though he looks significantly worse for the wear. Voldemort treats him with great contempt and has hijacked his house for Headquarters and is forcing his son to do Dark deeds against his nature. Later in the book, Lucius, along with his wife and sister-in-law, accidentally allow Harry and his friends to escape from Malfoy Manor. Voldemort punishes them severely, eventually putting them under house arrest. Despite his long-standing position as a Death Eater and Voldemort's advocate of pure-blood supremacy, Lucius has decided his love for his family is more important than his involvement in the war. During the final battle at Hogwarts, he pleads with Voldemort into letting him into the battlefield to locate his son. He and the rest of his family are reunited at the end of the book. Following Voldemort's death, Lucius, Narcissa and Draco all manage to "weasel their way" out of being sent to Azkaban due to Narcissa aiding Harry in the Forbidden Forest.
According to
Forbes magazine, Lucius Malfoy is currently number 12 on their fictional wealthiest characters list.
Epilogue: Nineteen years after Lord Voldemort's downfall, Hermione is married to Ron and they have two children, Rose and Hugo. She begins her post-Hogwarts career by working in the
Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, where she is instrumental in greatly improving life for house-elves; she has since moved higher up in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement while ensuring the eradication of oppressive, pro-pureblood laws.

A nice fan site with a book online I found looking for what was said in the tent which was far larger inside than outside. Harry Potter and the Serpent's Eye Another love interest? "He really hadn’t meant to yell at them — he needed them, and Ginny, more than anything. Ginny — he wished she were here to hold him, comfort him… kiss him." Not the book it is in, though.

1. " They arrive at their tent (small camping tent) but the funniest thing is the tent from the outside looks really small. Harry watches in amazement (he is the last to enter) as one by one they all enter the tent (9 of them in total). When he goes in, we see that inside, it is actually a very luxurious suite. Harry thinks its so cool and says "I love magic". " In Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. Source: The Movie Spoiler
2. Another kind of love is that of friends and family. "2 of the spirits stand beside Harry, and they are his parents. They tell Harry to break the connection, so that in the midst of confusion, they can distract Lord V. and Harry can escape. Cedric' spirit stands beside Harry and tells him to take his body back to his father. James' and Lily Potter tell Harry to let go and when he does, he grabs the Cup and Cedric's body and disappears/ports back to the maze start point. Lord V is furious that Harry escaped. Back at the start point, Harry is crying over Cedric' body."

What bothers me is not what the sexuality of make -believe characters is but that an actor who has proven himself successful, goes and does nude spread, embarrasses me with a HBO cameo that I tell Rich, I want to watch because he was featured. And the skit is poorly done and has sex badly represented. Hardly the accomplished actor from H.P. And to have a friend send me an email with his genitals showing is not what I want to see. Luckily she marked it and I never opened it. As that is not something I want to see. Not necessary.
This skit was a far cry from worth watching. I don't think that is a direction a successful actor needs to go having established himself as a valid talent. Women are always doing this before they are famous and put to shame for having done so. This is a role reversal. I am sure there are pangs of being typecast. Thus a role in Equus. What is this proving your an adult and can do so?

My review: You know how music albums come out that maybe shouldn't have? Like they had a contract to make it and didn't really work on anything new? Well that is my opinion. I was disappointed in how dark movies are being made. Like the Pirates was very dark both on the screen and the story; so too is this one. I was confused a lot and don't like movies that go back and forth in the story. Well, it seemed to. You know JK Rowling has sworn that this is her last HP movie. I am not giving away the ending, but it is possible there could be another after this. As the last movie hinted of romance and only a tiny inferance was given of such, so too happened here. There was one kiss for Harry and it might not be with who you think it will be with, unless you know who he wanted to go to the dance the last time with. Ok if that is a big hint. I have given only one thing away. But that is all. And Hogwarts is not as fun as it usually is with there being a truelycruel and evil Professor in their mists. LI

Born: July 31, 1965 (Read More)
Lives: Edinburgh, Scotland, with husband, anaesthesiologist Neil Murray, and kids Jessica (12), David (3) and Mackenzie (1).
Books: Eight to date - the first six Harry Potter books as well as Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Currently: Writing the seventh Harry Potter book. Jo has also written a new children's book, a "political fairy story," which may be published at a later date.

Since then, Jo (as she likes to be called) has become one of the most successful writers in history. She has written eight books, of which there are 300 million in print in 63 countries worldwide. Critics often credit her writing with the reinvigoration a generation of youth that had become obsessed with television and video games, by introducing literature that is just as fun and whimsical as it is good.

Jo's books have brought her tremendous wealth; she is one of the richest women in Britain, with some analysts projecting she will become a billionaire by the time the Potter series has run its course. She gives large amounts of money to charity; some of the causes to which she has given include Amnesty International, One Parent Families, The MS Society Scotland and Book Aid International. Most recently, Jo used her influence to help Baroness Emma Nicholson launch the Children's High Level Group, an organization in Romania to ensure and enforce children's rights worldwide. Jo's interest in the cause began when she read a disturbing newspaper article.

These actions have earned Jo the distinction of Scotland's Most Powerful Woman (a title bestowed by The Scotsman), even though a little over 10 years ago, such a name couldn't have been farther from the truth.

Jo has been writing and spinning tales since early in life; as a child she would often tell stories to her sister. She attended school in Winterbourne, outside Bristol, until she moved to Tutshill, just outside Chepstow, in Wales. She studied French at the University of Exeter and spent a year in Paris before returning to work in London at Amnesty International, a human rights organization. She then moved to Manchester until late in 1991, when, nine months after her mother's untimely death, she fled to Portugal for a change of scenery.

After a failed marriage, Jo returned to Britain for a new start with her new daughter, Jessica. She hurried to finish her draft of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone during whatever respite she could get as a single, working mother.

The idea for the book for which came to her in a now-fabled delayed train ride from Manchester to London. Jo had forgotten a pen, and so sat and pondered Harry, a scrawny and bespectacled newcomer to her mind, for about four hours. Jo often remarks that the idea simply "fell into my head" - that Harry arrived as a gift from the unknown.

Jo now lives in Edinburgh with her second husband, anaesthesiologist Neil Murray, and three children: Jessica, David and baby Mackenzie. She doesn't often engage in the publicity her fame has afforded her, and so has been called reclusive; she would more readily characterize herself as "secretive."

She is currently penning Harry Potter and the [Something-or-Other], which fans gauge will be released in 2007 but about which no official release date has been suggested. Though Jo has shown interest in writing a series encyclopedia sometime down the road, this will be the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series, as she has always planned. [Less]

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Your lifelong enemy is back and your world has been turned upside down. All you want to do is fight, but everyone else is trying to keep you safe and quiet. You try to concentrate on your classes (particularly the big tests coming up at the end of the year), but it’s hard with that pretty older girl who seems to like you, and a horrible new professor who seems to hate you. And then there are the dreams — entrancing, disturbing — of a mysterious door . . .

Welcome to Harry Potter’s fifth year at Hogwarts, where danger lurks at every turn. But Harry wants nothing more than to face it — and soon it’s time to take matters into his own hands. Be there for the action and adventure — read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
