Beloved horses, dogs & cats slaughtered for human consumption

One last comment. The brutal slaying of cats and dogs of their pelts for profit continues. The countries allowing this horrible crime are Russia, China and the Phillipines. For the full story, check out my Newsflash section on my website. I am asking my readers to write their elected representatives immediately to invoke trade sanctions against these countries until these practices are stopped. Mankind's in-humanity is only as bad as mankind allows it to continue. Help stop this brutal horrible murder of what we consider family members and pets.
God Bless and have a terrific day! ~ David Lawrence Dewey ~

NEWS BREAKING STORY 1-19-2006
Over 120,000 Horse Are Being Slaughtered Annually In The U.S.
And Shipped Overseas For Human Consumption

Last year, over 120,000 healthy American horses were slaughtered and they are not old crippled or blind horses. (It is against federal law to ship a blind or crippled horse). The slaughter industry will not take old skinny horses. The horses being slaughtered range in age from six months to thirteen years of age.
Why Are They Being Slaughtered?
American horses are being slaughtered in three foreign owned slaughter houses in Ilinois and Texas. Their meat is being shipped overseas as a delicacy for the Italians, French, Japanese and other countries overseas.

Polls across America show that 74%-90% of people are opposed to horses being slaughtered.

Currently there are bills in the House (HR 503) and Senate (S 1915) that would ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the transport of horseflesh or live horses out of the country for the purpose of slaughter. HR 503 currently has 134 cosponsors.

The Senate version of The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S1915) was introduced on Wednesday 26, of October and currently has 10 cosponsors.

Horse slaughter promotes theft, neglect, abuse and lowers the value of horses in general.

Tom Durfee and his wife Julia, own and operate The Laughing Horse Sanctuary a 501(c)3 non-profit equine rescue. They are asking fellow Americans to help this stop this senseless slaughter of these intelligent and loving animals.

You can contact Tom and Julia through this address, telephone and website:

(Desperate for Hay Donations).

In 2006, 142,791 of America's horses were slaughtered for European consumption including those horses that were shipped to Canada and Mexico. As of August 28, 2007, the Equine Death Toll thus far for 2007, including those horses that were shipped to Mexico and Canada: 64,662

DO YOU HATE THIS? DOES YOUR HEART BREAK LIKE OUR HEARTS BREAK EVERYDAY?

DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. IT IS TIME FOR AMERICANS TO STAND UP AND SAY "NO" TO THIS PURELY FOREIGN DRIVEN EXPORT BLOODBATH. IT IS TIME TO TELL OUR "GOVERNMENT" THAT THESE ARE OUR HORSES, OUR PETS, OUR FRIENDS AND AFTER ALL THE HORSE HAS DONE FOR AMERICA AND AMERICANS THROUGH THE CENTURIES IS THIS HOW WE SHOW OUR THANKS? DON'T YOU THINK THEY DESERVE BETTER FROM US? Read about horse slaughter details You can adopt, or sponsor a horse or goat.

Please contact your Congressman and Senators and ask them to co-sponsor this important legislation to stop this barbaric practice and slaughter of these horses.

After a successful inaugural Musical Horse Aid, Animal Fairy Charities President and founder Debra Lopez is already planning for the 2008 event.

"It was a phenomenal event," Lopez said. "The bands and the speakers were phenomenal, and the silent auction went great."

Lopez said Musical Horse Aid garnered coverage in several local media outlets as well as national ones. The event was written about in high-profile horse publications such as Bloodhorse...

UPDATED January 19, 2006
I first reported on this atrocity - January 2, 2002
And it is still going on in these countries!
CATS AND DOGS BEING KILLED FOR FUR
URGENT APPEAL TO STOP THIS SLAUGHTER

Cats and dogs are being bred in countries such as China, Russia, Phillipines and Thailand for their fur. They are being killed brutally, often severing a vein in the stomuch as they are skinned alive. This is done to not damage the fur. These pelts are then being sold for the production of fur coats, fur trim around the neck of coats and in toys. Yes toys. When you purchased toys this Christmas for your children with fur, that fur on that toy may very well be the fur from a cat or dog brutally killed in one of these countries for profit. The argument is that the people in these countries are simply trying to make a living. That this is a way of life for them because they don't view cats or dogs as we do, as pets. In several of these countries they actually raise and "eat" these innocent animals for food. I'm sorry but are we still living in the middle ages? This is un-civilized and barbaric.

I urge my readers to BOYCOTT all products made in the following countries, CHINA, RUSSIA, PHILLIPINES and THAILAND until these practices are stopped by authorities in these counties. The government authorities need to immediately ban these practices and make it a crime to raise and kill such animals for profit or for eating. I call upon you my readers, if you have any ounce of human compassion, whether you like cats or dogs or not, please write your elected officials in Washington demanding an immediate ban on all trade from any of these countries until these practices are stopped. Demand that laws be passed quickly to make it a crime with heavy fines and jail sentences for the purchase of any fur from cats or dogs for the production of clothes, toys or any other product. Mankind's inhumanity is only as bad as mankind allows it. If you have any sense of what is right or wrong, you will demand that these practices are stopped immediately. Please do something today to stop this slaughter of innocent animals that we in the civilized world treat as family members. You can use my link on my website to find your elected representatives in Washington to write. There presently is a bill in both Houses to pass a federal law making this a criminal offense in the United States and to ban the imports of such products into the United States. Please do something today! As a matter of fact, start a chain email letter to your friends, telling them about this and asking them to boycott products made from these countries and to write their Congressmen. The only way to get these atrocities stopped is to hit them in their pocketbooks.

If you don't believe just how bad this situation is, then please go to this website, The Humane Society of America. Here you will find very graphic videos of cats and dogs being murdered for their pelts or their meat. I warn you that these videos are graphic and shocking. They were taken undercover in the various countries mentioned. You will need the Real PlayerG2 to play these. You can download the new Real PlayerG2 for FREE by clicking here. It is well worth it because you get the Real Player Jukebox as well. You can record your CD's onto your hard drive using it. It will take about 20-25 minutes to download both at 56K. It is a 8.4 meg file.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote next week on a bill that would further President Bush's faith-based program for government-funded religion. The bill would allow organizations that receive our tax dollars to discriminate against employees on the basis of their religion. An amendment to restore civil rights protections is expected to be introduced by Rep. Bobby Scott of Virginia. This civil rights amendment should be supported.

The proposed legislation would jeopardize civil rights and religious freedom because it would roll back protection against discrimination or misuse of government funds by religious organizations. For the first time ever, it would allow religious organizations involved in federal job training programs to discriminate according to religion when hiring staff for these taxpayer-funded services.

Non-profits -- whether religious or secular -- that provide taxpayer-funded services currently need to obey federal hiring guidelines. Under this proposal, religious non-profits would be able to hire individuals only from their particular regligion to provide thse taxpayer-funded services. For example, a highly qualified social worker might be rejected because she "wasn't the right kind of Christian" to work on a job training program.

Last Congress, similar attempts at religious discrimination were beaten back thanks to the emails and letters sent in to Congressman. We need to let Congress know that we are still standing strong against religious discrimination and do not want this legislation to pass unless critical civil rights protections are restored.

Click below for more information to take action, or write, call or fax your Congressman and tell them you oppose this BILL.

Q. WHY WOULD YOU WANT
TO ADOPT A MUSTANG?

One man's experience:
For the last ten years, I have been using my Mustangs as Mounted Posse horses, and they just work out great. Once a year, our Posse takes a 150 mile ride across the old Mojave Trail. Each year that I have gone I have taken a Mustang. I even brought along another one for the Drag rider. After that trip, he was purchased by one of the riders, as she no longer wanted to ride her Arab. She has ridden him ever since.

I have been a big advocate for these horses, and believe in them. When I used to buy, sell and train horses, I would buy mustangs from herds in New Mexico and Texas, and even Mexico. These horses have proven to alot of unbelievers that they are worth having.

I recently took a non believer to Nevada, and we got a mustang for him. He, too, has changed his opinion.

The real reason I chose these horses was the price, and the fact that they are part of our western history. It wasn't until I owned one that I found out what great horses they are. I can truly say that my horse Dot, a white leopard appaloosa mustang, is my best friend. Once you own one, they hook you!

Sound Feet, Sound Minds
"Mother Nature Breeds A better Horse"

Wells Fargo Bank uses three mustangs in their stable of horses to pull their famous stagecoaches! They appreciate the mustang's soundness, never needing shoes, and their quiet minds.

Experienced horse people like mustangs because of their sound feet and sane minds. Horses on the range, growing up in a functioning natural herd structure, are socialized in a way that few domestics can even come close to. They know their manners! They know where their feet are. They are masters of body language communication. They respect their leaders. They are wise and sure-footed in uneven terrain. And they know the difference between a mountain lion and a piece of debris in the wind. They don't waste calories, tending to be less "flighty" than domestics, and thus have incredible endurance.

Chance, a mustang mare owned by Arizona Lindy, illustrates the versatility of the hardy mustang - she excels in both endurance and arena competition

Char Antuzzi competes each year in the Tevis Cup Endurance Ride, riding a mustang named Sir Galahad who was rounded up with other wild mustangs by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

"I like the mustangs because to me, the day they are born they do an endurance ride," Antuzzi said.

Many horseback riders pick Arabians because they are born in the desert, but mustangs have survival skills that allow them to expend the least amount of energy possible and stay alive, Antuzzi said.
"Because they always have a reserve, they'll never run themselves into the ground," Antuzzi said.

They can also recognize danger faster than many other horses, she said. On one trail ride, Sir Galahad stopped, his ears perked up and he started quivering. Antuzzi did not understand why he would not go anywhere until she saw what lay in their path.

"Around the bend there was a pack of coyotes," Antuzzi said. "And the horse behind me was clueless."

These equines stay aware of the dangers in the wild and sustain themselves water hole to water hole, she said. Nine-year-old Sir Galahad has covered 1,000 endurance miles, finishing 15 minutes past the cutoff two years ago and earned his buckle last year. Riders earn a Tevis Cup buckle if they complete 100 miles in the time allotted.

"Mustangs are consistent," Antuzzi said. "They don't go fast, but they trot up a hill, down a hill, over logs, through creeks. They just maintain this forward momentum."

Genetic Vigor

Contrary to the commonly held opinion that mustangs are inbred, Mustangs actually enjoy the highest level of genetic health of all horses. This could change in the future, but for now, however, this is the case. The Mustang gene pools are healthy and vigorous, with excellent genetic variability. No HYPP here. No Doc-O-Lena Disease.

Good Health, Easy Keepers

Range-hardened mustangs are tough and inclined to good health. Countless adopters can relate tales of mustangs surviving terrible injuries and illnesses that would surely have killed the average horse within a short time. Due to hundred of years living in harsh conditions, they are "easy keepers" - seldom requiring expensive supplements or rich feeds. Living on the range, mustangs have learned, generation after generation, not to waste calories. In this way, they tend to be level-headed, calm, easy-going animals - not the skittish, flighty creatures often conjured up by the word "wild."

Low Entry Price to Horse Ownership

You can't beat the price! (starting at $125)

But BEWARE! That's barely even the deposit, let alone the down payment, when you consider everything you will need to put out over the years for feed, housing, fencing, training, veterinary care, hoof trimming, tack and equipment, etc. If price is the main attraction, think hard about whether or not you can actually afford a horse.

On the other hand, the low price is not necessarily a bad thing! Since I was not already a "horse person" when we got our first mustangs, and not at all in a mindset to pay thousands of dollars for a horse, it is unlikely we would ever have adopted in the first place - and certainly we would not have gotten as many as we now have - had the price been higher. Of course, once we got them home, we fell in love and are deeply committed to providing the best feed and care and training for them.

Many people report that the low price originally attracted them to mustangs, but what really hooked them was how great the horses turned out!

Historical Connection - Living Legends

Many people find a thrill in owning "a Piece of History," "A Living Legend." From the Spanish Conquistadores, through the Great Native American Horsemen, explorers like Lewis & Clark, Mountain Men, pioneers, homesteaders, ranchers, "Buckaroo" and "Vaquero" cattlemen, and the Military Remount Program, as well as the Dust Bowl-Depression Era tragedies, and the coming of the tractor, with its concurrent decline in horse-ownership during the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's - IT'S ALL THERE - coursing through the blood of America's wild horses.
